Out Of the Woods: Day One

Photos by Sandra Braverman

Out Of The Woods welcomed the Austrian music loving audience into the mystical forest, to enjoy a weekend of music by celebrated artists, including SOHN, PHOENIX, CONNOR YOUNGBLOOD, RATBOY, CIGARETTES AFTER SEX, and so many more. It was a success! If you weren’t at the stages enjoying the tunes, then you would find yourself partaking in various activities around the festival grounds, relaxing in the hammocks while sipping on your Ottakringer, or simply absorbing the fresh air and freedom that the Wiesen woods had to offer.

Couldn’t make it this year? No worries! Out Of The Woods will be back next year, bigger than ever, so we’ll catch you there next time.

Eikon: Elle King and Paul Cauthen Live in St. Pete

Photos by Miranda Jayne

Elle King baptized downtown St. Petersburg, Florida with her Ministry Tour last Saturday. Joined by Paul Cauthen, she performed songs from her debut album Love Stuff and entertained the crowd with stories about breakups, mean girls, and demons (yes, actual demons). The ordained minister even performed a vow renewal onstage.

Formerly part of the band Sons and Fathers, Cauthen released his first solo album only a month ago. With a voice that’s a dead ringer for Johnny Cash, he has already been praised by Rolling Stone as a promising new voice in country music.

Check out a gallery of the dynamic duo’s performances under the cut.

Eikon: The Fest 15, Gainesville Rock City

The Fest is not just a concert, The Fest is a community.

When I first came to Gainesville, Florida five years ago for school, I never imagined this little town could play host to the biggest family reunion the world has ever seen. Every year, more than 350 bands and thousands of fans descend on the city for three PBR fueled days of music, friendship, comedy, and even wrestling.

Fest is a place where the person next to you in the pit automatically becomes your best friend. It’s a place where you can discover your new favorite band and have a beer with them right after their set. I’ve never felt more comfortable and connected to those around me at a show than I do when I step into a Fest venue, and it’s an experience I recommend to any wayward music fan looking for a place to belong.

I had the absolute pleasure of being part of the team documenting this year’s Fest-ivities and was able to work alongside bands and fans who had come from all over the world to take part. Here are just a few of my favorite moments from the best 3 days of the year.

Music Midtown: Summer’s Not Over Yet

If you’re just not ready to wake up and smell the freshly sharpened pencils of a new school year, there’s one more way to hold onto the summer. Atlanta’s Music Midtown may be one of the final fests of the season, but it boasts a lineup so incredible you’re sure to forget all about decorating your dorm room.

If seeing Joe Jonas’ infectiously catchy band DNCE on the same stage as emo pop heroes Twenty One Pilots isn’t enough to knock you out of your back to school blues, the lure of catching the ever elusive The Killers should seal the deal. The festival will also host Euterpe faves, Kesha, Alabama Shakes, Chvrches, and The Coathangers.

We hope to rock out with all of you under the shadow of the Atlanta skyline next month! For more information, visit musicmidtown.com.
